Electric Current is the flow of electrons. Electrons are negative charge carriers. Electrons orbit around nucleus of atom. On the other hand, protons are positive charge carriers.

As we know like charges repel and unlike charges attract, therefore negatively charged electrons are attracted to the positively charged nucleus.

What are actually moving are electrons, which are negatively-charged particles. 

These flow from the negative terminal to the positive terminal. The actual direction of the flowing charges depends on the type of conductor.
